Timofey Balin

After graduating from the Faculty of Asian Languages at St. Petersburg State University (specializing in Korean and Chinese languages), Timofey Balin worked for a few years in international media coverage. Having decided to continue his academic career, he became interested in current media representations and actual forms of digital labor. He studied delivery workers from large digital platforms such as Yandex.Food and Delivery Club during the COVID pandemic in Russia. In France he turned to small-scale delivery cooperatives that represent themselves as part of the “platform cooperativism” movement as conceptualized by Trebor Scholz and others. Currently he works as a researcher at CERCEC as part of the Visual History of the Holocaust project.
